Program Director

Position Description

The Kalamazoo Climate Crisis Coalition (KCCC) is seeking a Program Director to manage the Holistic Healthy Homes (HHH) Program, funded from an U.S. EPA Environmental and Climate Justice Community Change Block Grant (Community Change) through the federal Inflati Reduction Act. The HHH program is rooted in KCCC’s mission to “mobilize collective action to achieve immediate and drastic reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and rapid adoption of renewable energy through a transition grounded in social, racial, economic, and environmental justice.” 


With $18.9 million from the EPA Community Change grant, the HHH Program partners with local community organizations to deliver home repairs and energy efficiency upgrades to  single-family housing units in the Northside, Eastside, West Douglas, and Edison neighborhoods of the City of Kalamazoo. Additionally, the HHH Program will support expansion of two green industry workforce development programs and the development of four local neighborhood centers that will allow them to function off-grid in an emergency as community anchors to provide activities and services.


The HHH Program is led jointly by Kalamazoo County and KCCC. The Program Director will work under the supervision of the KCCC Executive Director. The Program Director will be responsible for HHH programming oversight and delivery, which includes homeowner recruitment, enrollment, and participant progress throughout the HHH Program. Working in collaboration with community partners, they will manage and facilitate home audit scheduling, repair and efficiency upgrades delivery progr for participants on a case-by-case basis. Additionally, they will supervise three coordinators who support different facets of program delivery and grant compliance (Engagement and Outreach, Workforce Development, and Financial Counseling. The Program Director will submit quarterly reports to the HHH Program Administrator at Kalamazoo County. For quarterly reporting, the Program Director is responsible for submitting budget compliance and financial records, progress and outcome updates  service delivery, as well as collecting and verifying progress updates from partner community organizations including neighborhood associations, workforce development partners, and housing resources organizations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervises the work of assigned personnel (3) providing guidance, regular performance evaluations, and collaborative support.

  • Works closely with KCCC Executive Director to ensure successful delivery of program outcomes, ongoing outreach, consistent messaging, and financial accountability

  • Maintain and build program relevant positive community relationships in support of program goals and with authenticity to KCCC mission and vision.

  • Oversee and manage program budgets and financial reporting to KCCC ED and County Progr Administrator.

  • Implement and manage homeowner recruitment, enrollment, service delivery, and evaluation in collaboration with community partners and neighborhood leaders.

  • Collaborate with partners to ensure ongoing positive relationships and cohesive case management for participants.

  • Commit to preparedness and attendance in monthly planning meetings with the Program Administrator as well as meetings with community partners.

  • Ensure program compliance with regulations, laws, statutes, standards, and guidelines pertaining to HHH Program areas of oversight in coordination with the County Grant Compliance Offi (hosted by the County).

  • Oversee and verify the financial accountability of the HHH programming and deliver fi information to the Grant Compliance Officer regular

  • Evaluate ongoing progress of the HHH programming and deliver reports to the Program Administrator regularly.

Minimum Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in program management, planning, social work, construction management, or a related fiel

  • Or at least 5-7 years of related work experience with program management, grant management, case management, and/or construction management.

  • Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.

  • Working knowledge of home renovation/construction.

  • Demonstrated experience with staff management

  • Experience with grant management.

  • Demonstrated familiarity or knowledge of the Kalamazoo Community.

  • Experience working with low income communities.

  • High level comprehension of the impacts of historic disparities on vulnerable communities. Training in diversity equity and inclusion or relevant experience.

  • Knowledge of housing policy and energy efficiency practic

Additional Experience

  • Experience with maintaining; emotionally, and physically safe work culture. Evidence of maintaining effective community relationships and partnership 

  • Willingness to work an occasional varied schedule including some weekends and evenings.

  • Competencies in computer current sowtare and technology. Training will be provided for some applications.

  • Be accountable for assigned responsibilities, schedules, and deadlines for work. 

  • Understand and carry out oral and written communications.

  • Analyze and problem-solve.

  • Prepare clear and concise reports.

  • Confidence working individually and as part of an equally valued team.

  • Must pass a pre-employment background check.

  • Valid driver’s license.

Renumeration and Benefits

  • Salary commensurate with experience (range: $80,000 - $100,000).
