Taylor Van Winkle, the Climate Sustainability Coordinator, earned an undergraduate degree in Biology and History from Kalamazoo College, and is excited to return to the City of Kalamazoo to fill the this role after several years away. Taylor received a Master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Michigan State University with a focus on climate resiliency. Taylor is coming from East Lansing, having served as an Associate Planner for the City. Taylor has diverse prior experience including planning with Michigan counties and cities, developing urban greenspace planning frameworks on an international stage, securing grant funding for community projects, as well as collaborating with local community members and groups. Taylor is looking forward to working on the Climate Action and Climate Justice Plan, and has this to say:
"I'm happy to be back in Kalamazoo, I've lived many places and there's no place quite like it. Creating a county-wide climate action plan is a significant undertaking, but I am not alone in this work. There has been a great show of support from community members and county staff. Nothing worthwhile is done alone, and we have an excellent foundation and community to build on."
